Lucknow : The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Lucknow University unit, submitted a memorandum to the university administration demanding immediate action against Professor Ravi Kant Chandan of the Hindi Department for his recent controversial social media remarks.
According to ABVP, Professor Chandan posted on Facebook claiming that women like Muskan and Sonam Raghuvanshi are “products of Sanghi ideology,” and blamed the RSS mindset for incidents of women allegedly conspiring in their husbands’ murders. The ABVP called the statements deeply objectionable and defamatory toward the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Jatin Shukla, Co-Minister of ABVP Lucknow Mahanagar, said, “Several professors have been consistently posting hateful content on social media. This is not the first time Chandan has made such remarks—earlier, he made derogatory statements about the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, alleging immoral behavior by priests, which he falsely linked to historical events involving Aurangzeb.”
Shukla added that such narratives are not only factually incorrect but also dangerously communal, misguiding students and maligning revered institutions. “LU, which once educated dignitaries like Bhaurao Deoras, must not tolerate such slander against a nationalist organization like RSS,” he stated.
ABVP Lucknow University Vice President Nitish Singh added that during the COVID-19 crisis and other disasters, RSS volunteers served selflessly, without seeking publicity. “To label such an organization as a promoter of hatred is not only an insult to the RSS but to the nation itself.”
Unit Co-Minister Sakshi Singh noted, “This is not the first time Prof. Chandan has made misogynistic comments to target the RSS. His remarks demean both the organization and women.” She criticized Chandan for allegedly spreading ideological poison in classrooms and said his actions threaten the academic environment.
ABVP has demanded:
-
A neutral investigation committee be formed.
-
Suspension of Prof. Chandan until the inquiry is complete.
-
Expulsion from the university if found guilty.
-
Strict disciplinary guidelines to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The memorandum was submitted by research scholars and ABVP activists including Vineet Dubey, Atul Awasthi, Shivendra Pandey, Arpit Shukla, Abhishek Singh, and Abhay Shankar Pandey.
ABVP warned that failure to act would lead to a major student movement in the university.
